Bing’s marketing push March 12, 2010

Microsoft backed search engine Bing has been on a huge marketing push of late. The company have been lavishing money on expensive advertising, such as a lengthy TV advert during the Champions league match of Manchester Utd v AC Milan earlier this week. However, as with many Microsoft products, the marketing noise is not matched by the quality of the end product, as this post by Stuckon poignantly points out.

Still, this hasn’t seemed to have deterred Bing who will be buoyant at the news that they appear to be making minor dents into Google’s market share, according to the latest data they have increased market share in the US for the third month in a row to 9.7%.  However, it should be noted that Google’s market share slipped by a mere 0.54%.

As for the current results being produced by Bing, well they still seem to be rather lacklustre in my opnion. You’ll know when Bing is doing well, when it’s SERP’s are getting closer to matching Google’s. I just did a quick search for “car insurance” and couldn’t find moneysupermarket.com in the top 20.
