How you affect the social media world July 18, 2010 No Comments
I’m sure you were expecting a blog from me about the press conference I was oh so excited to see on Friday from Apple. However, I’m sure you’ve read enough about it and already have opinions formed that you are comfortable with.
Something that come to light to me, especially now with me more involved with social media than ever that there are some observations that on the surface seem very trivial but can make the difference in being seen as understanding and just ignorant.
SEO you in another life, brother July 17, 2010 No Comments
Okay, so I know Milton will already have bored the socks and shoes off you with yet another post droning on about the televisual treat that is Lost. You’ll probably groan when you see yet another speculative commentary and may perhaps be reminded of dear, repetitive Desmond, who had only one precious line from Season Two onwards: “PENN-EEEEEE!”
I will fall to my knees and beg you to stick by just one more Lost post, just because I’ve been a bit slow to watch through to the end and I reaaaally want to talk about it. But hey, why am I apologising?! This is my frickin’ blog post and no one tells me what I can’t do… *Inside reference hi-five*
Usability Vs design mixed with modern techniques July 16, 2010 No Comments
The age old argument of design over usability is one that should never really exist; both sides of web development can easily be merged to go hand and hand to create functional and pretty sites.
The designer will always want to use as many graphics and images as possible potentially slowing down the load times of the site. Flashy JavaScript, giant header images and video can also cause load bottlenecks but sure do make a difference when it comes to looks, and there aren’t many people who can’t appreciate a nice looking site. The relationship between trifle and content July 15, 2010 No Comments
My husband is a well meaning chap. However, he tends to make me do things that I sometimes don’t want to do, like go for extended walks, drink coffee and watch a Pakistani news channel replete with heavily made-up newswomen sporting ungodly amounts of rouge . And why? “Because I love you and I want you to try new things”, he said, to which of course I have no viable response.
The redsauce team share my husband’s characteristics when it come to client well being. Let me explain further (in a rather long-winded fashion).
My visit to the supermarket last night was stupendous. Why you ask? Well I managed to reach the store at the exact moment that one of the staff members was handling her pricing gun. In other words it was time for a discount bonanza! Herds of shoppers turned up at the oven area and clambered passed me trying to get their hands on a juicy roast chicken at a knock down price. But they were no match for me! I grabbed by oven baked bird and ran to the cake section. Read the rest of this entry »
R.I.P WordPress? July 14, 2010 No Comments
Now here at redsauce.com we love WordPress – there’s no doubt about it! The original blogging platform has evolved dramatically since its first release and is now widely regarded as one of the best free open source Web software options on the net.
WordPress is used by hundreds of thousands of bloggers worldwide and has just celebrated its one hundredth million plug in download. Despite its current champion status, it seems the WordPress dream could be about to come crashing down.
WordPress has new competition in the form of Posterous. The blogging site has already claimed Blogger and Twitpic but now has WordPress firmly in its sights and there’s a good chance Posterous could also dominate this blog platform too. Read the rest of this entry »
Too much choice and SEO July 13, 2010 No Comments
Is too much choice a bad thing?
Now, instinctively I’d say “no” but recently I’ve been unable to choose what film to watch of an evening and I’m pretty sure it’s all because I’ve got too much choice.
It has to be that because I’ve got some amazing films like The Godfather, Star Wars, Pulp Fiction, The 40 year old virgin, Scent of a woman, Amelie, Jurassic Park, to name but a few. So how can I not pick a film to watch?
The answer: I have so many that I don’t know where to start.
Watching the news via Twitter… July 12, 2010 No Comments
The joys of writing the Monday blog – I suppose I should probably talk about Spain, Raoul Moat or Cheryl Cole, but as per usual I’m going to talk about Twitter. You lucky people.
Now, I don’t own a television – I don’t watch that much of it, can’t afford a license at the moment and I have the internet which offers me just about the same. However, one thing I used to be slightly hindered with is the news. It tends to be the olds by the time I get to it.
BUT thanks to the power of the internet, Twitter and a handy little widget shown to me by hung-over Matthew, I can keep up-to-date with notifications and opinions of Tweeters I am following.
As powerful as Google News is, news is rarely real-time as results are collated from different sources – granted some news sites such as BBC, Sky News and FIFA offer real-time updates, but you are restricted to remaining on the specific page.
The World Cup draws to a close July 11, 2010 No Comments
The World Cup final is upon us in South Africa, and the participants in case you don’t know will be Spain and Holland. Though no real expert would realistically discount Holland’s ability to reach the final, they were not among the favourites at all.
The early favourite was Spain, with them being European champions currently and going on from strength to strength since then. Though Spain started with a 1-0 loss to Switzerland, they are now in the final after some glorious possession football that has killed teams off.
Typography Resources for Web Design July 9, 2010 No Comments
With the recent introduction in CSS 3 to use custom fonts there isn’t really a better time to look at some resources for use in graphic design and web design
If you are trying to design with the basic fonts on your computer you may have noticed there aren’t really any with much personality or design flair. Well you can bolster your resources by visiting some of the free font sites out there on the interweb.
Blambot is a great resource for comic fonts that can come in really useful when designing more light hearted websites that don’t need to have that business edge. Just check out their selection of free fonts in the various categories here. Read the rest of this entry »
