Greetings from my humble abode June 24, 2010 No Comments
I am working from home today and thought it would be a pleasant experience. However, I find that I am missing Milton’s musings, Tom’s chocolates, Selina’s voracious vocabulary and Amy’s collectedness. Matt’s incessant singing I don’t miss, but his pink shirt brightens up my day no end.
Even though I tend to work away beaverishly at Redsauce headquarters, I do enjoy the buzz of other people in the office chatting in the background about the World Cup, Matt’s iPad and James’s Texan haircut. It adds some spice and variety to my otherwise mundane life; my idea of a night out on the tiles is scuttling down the aisles of Morrisons with a tenner in my pocket and a hungry belly. Can spending $80 on a hair cut or your website change your fortunes? June 23, 2010 No Comments
The boss may be away but he’s still in contact! James has been e-mailing fresh from the States everyday with his news… and what news he has!
So far in his 5 or 6 days he’s… well as far as I know he’s not really done a lot! The only thing that he’s been excited about doing in the 37oC Dallas sun is getting an $80 hair cut! Yes… he’s gone all the way to America to get his hair cut! Now this wouldn’t normally be cause for a blog post but it cleverly links in with SEO and content.
The thing is James unfortunately thinks that splashing out on an $80 haircut could change his fortunes and make him look less like a well-known cartoon character. In fact, he’s convinced himself so much that it’s going to work that he’s even come up with names of ladies he’s apparently met over there (all platonic of course, just in case Samantha is reading this!) Oh dear! In the same way that spending $80 on a website isn’t going to transform your tired site, neither is an $80 hair cut going to transform a tired man! Read the rest of this entry »
Internet speeds around the world June 18, 2010 No Comments
If you ever feel hard done by living in the UK and paying over the odds for your internet, then you will probably feel even worse after you read this post.
While in the UK we have a pretty good standard of living and not much to really complain about in the bigger scheme of things, those little niggles can always get your back up, and with our broadband network here lagging slowly behind in the rest of the world, I thought it would be interesting to look at the rest of the world’s internet speeds and costs. Changes pending at Wikipedia June 16, 2010 No Comments
Our favourite online encyclopaedia, Wikipedia, has surprised us this week by announcing plans to make it easier to edit some of its most controversial articles… ohh, er!
The website say it’s an “important step” in its editing process. Up to 2,000 articles will have their strict editing rules relaxed, with users being given the chance to make important changes to certain artciles. OK, so there’s still going to be some editorial process – the changes will be sent to senior editors for review but it still marks a major change for the site, which has in the past stood firm on its editing restrictions. Consumers score big with iPhone 4 release finally on all networks June 13, 2010 No Comments
Aside from the fact that the iPhone 4 was most certainly one of the most anticipated releases of the year, second only to Apple’s other baby iPad, it also paved the way for more competition in the mobile phone market.
Though it isn’t anything new that you can now get iPhone on O2, Orange and Vodafone, now you will be able to get it on T-Mobile and 3. It means that no one will be forced to have to pick one network and one package if they wish to use iPhone without modification.
How could cockroaches be good for your website? June 12, 2010 No Comments
Cockroaches and the internet… not two phrases you’d normally associate together but using my literary skills I’m going to write a brilliant blog post cleverly combining the two.
Cockroaches – icky, creepy and generally a bit disgusting but new research has come out this week which shows that maybe we’re not giving them enough credit (see, I’ve got you all intrigued now!). Yes, as hard as it is to believe, a London university has spent the last few years researching the creepy crawlies and has found that their behaviour consists of much more than just scuttling around, scaring foreign tourists. WordPress, the popular and free blogging content management system, is fast reaching maturity with the latest version 3 due out anytime soon bringing with it a whole host of improvements.
WordPress has always primarily been known as a blogging platform but, with a few extra tweaks, the previous versions have been easy to adapt to a full content management system. With version 3 a lot of those hacks are now present out of the box, and some of the best features I’ve listed below.

We have been on the receiving end of a very exciting happening this week at redsauce HQ with an incredible creative project: an art gallery actually IN our office!

Facing out onto the glorious blooms of Queens Gardens, the organic-inspired designs are very much at home, with Dr Kim’s painted ceramic tile designs reflecting themes of nature and cell formation.

Apple has been busy in the last few months relasing their new Ipad, Iphone and Safari 5.
Their new product bombardment strategy is obviously working with Apple-related trends topping the search engines in the last month or so.

The Wayback Machine – how the web has changed June 4, 2010 No Comments
If you haven’t heard of the Wayback Machine, then you won’t know that you can look back through the history of a website and see what it looked like from its original days to its present day design and all the points in-between.
It’s a really interesting tool that lets you see how the web has a changed over the years and how design has moved on from table based designs with static html to the modern php, CSS and all the other forms of generating your websites. Read the rest of this entry »
