The Redsauce eaterie doesn’t offer humble pie July 8, 2010 No Comments
I’m struggling to find an interesting topic to write about today, which doesn’t bode well for my creative potential seeing as I’ve only been here for two months.
What to write? I spend all day writing content, researching blogs, building sites and using SEO tools, so on occasion I get a little spaced out with key-word vocabulary.
I think my brain has become saturated with all things redsauce – even my dreams are connected to office happenings and so far I’ve had nocturnal visions about tech wizard Chris, social-networking-fanatic Matt and Manhattan-office-space-loving Amy (who appeared in my dreams as my landlord). Yes I am strange and yes redsauce has become ingrained on my soul like an everlasting tattoo. I’ve been branded with the redsauce mentality and I’m afraid I’m becoming more like James everyday ie. much better at spouting sarcastic quips to my colleagues. Help me someone!! Tweeters versus twits – a social media debate July 3, 2010 No Comments
The gloves are off in the redsauce office this week with an almighty war breaking out between The Undisputed King and Champion of Social Media and The Naysayer Cynic of Unnecessary Technology over an item of social media we all like to call Twitter.
While the Champ takes their iPad away on romantic weekends to the Cotswolds and logs their every bum scratch on Four Square, the Cynic squeezes iPhones until their signal splutters out and takes a hammer to the next needless Nano. A battle of the wits commenced over Twitter and whether or not its market is mainstream or whether it is niche.
Budget hosting: some of the pitfalls and benefits July 2, 2010 No Comments
Budget hosting is something a lot of web users go for due in a large part to the cost which varies wildly in the web space market. Having got experience of various hosting packages over the years, I’ve noticed a wide discrepancy in the quality of the service and speed.
We are led to believe that quality always comes at a price and this rings true a lot of the time, which leads us nicely into some of the bad points of budget hosting. Read the rest of this entry »
iPhone 4 released to a chorus of cheers and intermittent signals June 27, 2010 No Comments
We know I’ve been salvating at the mouth about the new iPhone. As previously stated in conversations, I am NOT an Apple fanboy, though I do own an iPad (on release day) a MacBook (unibody) and an iPhone 4 (release day too). I am gadget and particularly phone mad. Not many people are impressed with me having two phones at the minute.
Most of you with Blackberry’s will understand, I don’t want to give it up as it has 6 months of free Blackberry Internet Service and that means I can BBM my friends and have bonafide push email without too much fiddling.
Web Developer Tools, CSS and HTML Troubleshooting – Firebug, Opera Dragonfly , Chrome, Safari and IE Developer Tools June 25, 2010 No Comments
Cross browser compatibility is a big thing; having your website render correctly in every browser is tiresome to implement but absolutely essential. Luckily today there are a bunch of tools for each browser to finetune CSS and layout issues in all the modern major browsers.
With everyone having their own preference for their favourite web browsers and some really strange people out there that are still using IE6, it’s become one of those jobs that if you build websites regularly, you code your CSS and html in a way which avoids the major problems, but a slight oversight can always bring you an out of line div or a float that isnt quite behaving how you expected it too. Luckily I’ve done a quick round up of some tools to fix all your browser based CSS problems Read the rest of this entry »
Dog pee accidents and website control June 23, 2010 1 Comment
A rather harrowing situation occurred this morning. The culprit’s name is Oscar and he’s a brindle boxer with four white paws, a wishbone of white around his nose and a permanent look of mischief. This puddle of sunshine happened thusly: I let the dog out, dog didn’t need to pee, dog wandered around lawn, dog went back inside. Cue a few hectic minutes of me getting ready, stuffing my face with toast and shepherding my belongings. I return to the kitchen to find a pool of yellow spreading across the doorway. *sigh*
Now, Oscar is getting on a bit now, he’s nearly six. Or in dog years he’s probably about 3, 528. Logic and experience tells me he should’ve grown out of his piddly puppy ways and embraced a higher level of bladder control and the lower level of kicked arse that comes with it. But no, he still likes to play the pee card, knowing that he can cause a furry fury by letting rip. It can be frustrating and sometimes I wish I could tell exactly what he’s thinking so that these moments of unmonitored moistness could be avoided.
Foursquare makes a compelling challenge to be the 4th major social media platform June 20, 2010 No Comments
After finally creating an account with foursquare I thought it would be in my best interest to actually see what it is all about. I only knew about this social media platform through my love of tweeting all day and seeing a small selection of my followers showing their location, having some kind of badge and become mayors of places like Greggs the Bakers.
I quickly found out there was some kind of RPG element. I know it sounds far-fetched but its true and its purpose is to keep you signing back in and beating your friends score. Score? You enquire… I know, this genuinely is where foursquare gets interesting in my opinion. The whole purpose of participating in foursquare is to check in at various venues as you go along your day.
Marshmallow content musings June 17, 2010 No Comments
My sister recently described her husband as the Stay Puft Marshmallow man (just to clarify my brother-in-law is not a fatty).
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Stay Puft, he was a character in the Ghostbusters movie released in 1984, who, for some inexplicable reason, wore a sailor hat. The flabby foe was a giant monster made of fluffy white confectionery.
Stay Puft was conjured up after evil god Gozer told the ghost busting squad that he would create the first figure that popped into their imagination and use it as a tool to defeat them.
House of the rising SEO ranking June 14, 2010 No Comments
I’ve been moving house this weekend and everything is massively hectic; boxes strewn all over the place, mountains of discarded packaging and cleaning products, not to mention clothes, wires and DVDs EVERYWHERE.
Being slightly nonsensical and difficult, my initial plan was to tidy all the small stuff and make the place look nice, somewhat ignoring the stacks of boxes that blocked every walkway and turned a casual stroll through each room into an obstacle course of tedium.
A beau with a bad beard June 10, 2010 2 Comments
My husband is currently growing a beard. It upsets me irrationally and I have paused today to take a moment and ask why.
His whiskers are relatively thick and exceptionally dark but thankfully they’re trimmed to perfection. Having said that, I did find a crumb nestled in his healthy facial mane during a stroll in Ikea at the weekend.
I’ve also caught him teasing out the ends of his moustache with his fingers many a time (the last occurrence was during last night’s episode of the Junior Apprentice) and trimming his beard with my giant pair of kitchen scissors. All the while he was exhibiting a look of intense concentration similar to the face a surgeon might display during a life saving heart-bypass operation. Read the rest of this entry »
