Should your company have a company blog? October 26, 2009
Crudely, a company blog is referred to merely as a “company blog”. Who would have thought, eh? It is a company blog, I know, but that term just doesn’t do it justice.
It should contain industry news, gossip, related-industry news, and yes, your own company info among other things. Generally, however, you should concentrate on news from your industry, covering topics that interests your potential customer base AND your competitors. Marketing your company blog to your competitors is a way for your business to be remembered by key players in the industry, who may talk about it to people that work for them (also in your industry) and other key players.
Who knows, they may not be working with the same company in times to come. They may become a non-competitor and work in a related industry someday – and if you are writing about industry news on your company blog, you could be the company that they remember – they may not want to or can do business with their ex-company, leaving you, because of your company blog, to be the company most remembered for your industry products.
This is just one scenario that can happen from your company writing its own ‘blog’. Maybe you should start thinking industry news, rather than “company blog” in the future.
