Why I heart blogging! May 16, 2010 No Comments
OK, by now you should’ve got the message that here at redsauce.com we love, love, lurrrvvveee blogging! Yes, that’s right – we just can’t get enough of WordPress, tags and all-in-one SEO packs – in fact, they’ve even started to creep into my dreams…. worrying but true!
Anyhooo…. just what is it about blogs that gets us hot under the collar and makes us perspire ever so slightly?!
Firstly blogs are great for expanding your knowledge in a none geeky way! OK, so maybe it’s still geeky but nevermind…! Perez Hilton’s top five tips to make your blog famous May 1, 2010 1 Comment
Sorry to disappoint any of you snivelling proles, but the team at redsauce.com towers are actually surprisingly well-heeled. We have gold-plated credit cards, middle names that date back to ancient landholders and frequently pull out the family silver to dine on roasted swan.
Indeed my liege, we are a posh lot. So posh, that we are bosom buddies with none other than the pink princess hotel heiress Paris Hilton! Paris just loves to pull up in her platinum Bentley, kick off her Christian Louboutins and share a cheesy oatcake with James. She’s swapped shopping for an SEO fix and she thinks content is “like, totally hot….”.
Tactics for shameless online self promotion! February 16, 2010 No Comments
Many designers, creatives and all sorts of other business use many kinds of self-promotion tactics. As a designer I’ll focus on the ones more suited to creative industries.
Website: The main starting point for any creative is to have their own website. Not belonging to any social network or pre-made site, it must be completely your own. If you’re a creative then this should be easy, even if web is not your area, you can still design it and pass it onto a web designer to put it together coherently. Keep it simple and let your work speak for itself. Don’t have too many gimmicks as it can be distracting to users trying to see what you do. Keep the branding on the site consistent and have simple navigation, don’t make your work hard to find! Read the rest of this entry »
What to blog about? January 12, 2010 No Comments
We’re always saying how a blog can really help your website, and even humanise it a little. After all it’s always good to know there are real people behind the shiny website! But sometimes it’s it can be really tricky to think of what to actually write about…
Here’s some ideas which should help you out:
1. Check industry news, you probably subscribe to a few online e-zines and even some paper magazines related to your business and industry. A quick flick through them will work wonders, try not to pick anything too controversial or you might have the wrong opinion and give yourself a bad name. Stick to safe interesting subjects, i.e. a designer could write about someone’s work who has inspired them or the latest software developments. Have an opinion, but don’t take it too far and argue about it to yourself or your blog will turn into a rant! Read the rest of this entry »
Is your website still alive? December 15, 2009 No Comments
Prove it!
There’s nothing worse than an inactive site, with the bare minimum in the way of updates and news. How else are your audience supposed to know the site is still working? And of course Google wont love you for ignoring your site either…
There are lots of simple ways to stop your website going extinct, and to keep your audience and customers interested. First off, when was the last time you looked at the design of the site? Believe it or not, on my web travels I’ve found websites that look like they were made over 10 years ago and haven’t changed since! If you’re confident and creative enough to do your own redesign, then go for it! There are tools and programs out there to help you. Keep the layout and navigation simple and the design appropriate and eye catching Check out your competitors, and any other sites you like the look of. If using a template, learn how to customise it and make it unique. If you’re not the creative type, do the sensible thing and hire a designer! Read the rest of this entry »

The Benefits of using WordPress April 14, 2009 No Comments
WordPress has been with us now since 2003 and it just keeps getting better. As a piece of blogging software, there are few rivals who can match its power, functionality and support. One of the reasons WordPress has been so successful is that it is programmed in PHP. PHP has made a name for itself on the web as being the most widely used scripting language, which means, more developers can create plugins and push WordPress forward.
