Well done you have a blog, and you’re writing it frequently. But it looks awful. Slap!

So what can you do? Read on…

Start with a decent theme – If you understand CSS etc really well you can make your own, if you’re a complete novice, shop around online for themes you can buy  and install yourself. It’s really easy to do, and there are loads of tutorials online to show you how. If you’re in between a newbie and a pro, then take the most simple theme going and adapt it, that way you wont have to write any new code and but there is a wide scope to play about. deviantartWhile there are hundreds of websites geared towards showcasing artists and designers, DeviantART has to now be the largest. Boasting over 12 million members worldwide, it has created a community of every kind of artist, designer, poet, author and photographer imaginable. From young ‘fan-artists’ just starting out drawing existing characters to professional painters, if you’re creative, there’s a place for you there. It’s a great place to post work, with a social media cross-over, while I perhaps wouldn’t use it for professional purposes, it’s social sense mean that you can get feedback about your work, and create collections of other work to inspire you. Is your website still alive? December 15, 2009 No Comments

There’s nothing worse than an inactive site, with the bare minimum in the way of updates and news. How else are your audience supposed to know the site is still working?  And of course Google wont love you for ignoring your site either…

There are lots of simple ways to stop your website going extinct, and to keep your audience and customers interested.  First off, when was the last time you looked at the design of the site? Believe it or not, on my web travels I’ve found websites that look like they were made over 10 years ago and haven’t changed since! If you’re confident and creative enough to do your own redesign, then go for it! There are tools and programs out there to help you. Keep the layout and navigation simple and the design appropriate and eye catching Check out your competitors, and any other sites you like the look of. If using a template, learn how to customise it and make it unique. If you’re not the creative type, do the sensible thing and hire a designer! Read the rest of this entry »
