Many designers, creatives and all sorts of other business use many kinds of self-promotion tactics. As a designer I’ll focus on the ones more suited to creative industries.
Website: The main starting point for any creative is to have their own website. Not belonging to any social network or pre-made site, it must be completely your own. If you’re a creative then this should be easy, even if web is not your area, you can still design it and pass it onto a web designer to put it together coherently. Keep it simple and let your work speak for itself. Don’t have too many gimmicks as it can be distracting to users trying to see what you do. DeviantART makes changes for the better December 29, 2009 No Comments
While there are hundreds of websites geared towards showcasing artists and designers, DeviantART has to now be the largest. Boasting over 12 million members worldwide, it has created a community of every kind of artist, designer, poet, author and photographer imaginable. From young ‘fan-artists’ just starting out drawing existing characters to professional painters, if you’re creative, there’s a place for you there. It’s a great place to post work, with a social media cross-over, while I perhaps wouldn’t use it for professional purposes, it’s social sense mean that you can get feedback about your work, and create collections of other work to inspire you.
