Who needs content more – small sites or large established brands? February 8, 2010 No Comments

I get asked this question quite a bit, both from people in the industry and people just starting to learn about the magic of content.

The answer – of course – is both, but perhaps for different reasons.

Larger Sites

Larger sites, especially those that have Google ‘authority’ already can benefit huge, huge amounts with the injection of content to already established pages on their site.

For example, a company that I have encountered recently has 300,000 pages on their site with only manufacturer product descriptions on each page, rendering most of the content on the site redundant.  The site has authority, has a great brand name offline and is a real content sleeping giant. redsauce.com Defies Recession! January 24, 2010 1 Comment

Think tank Centre for Cities has said that it’ll take years for the majority of cities in the UK to recover from the recession.

It says that while some areas such as Cambridge and Edinburgh are “well-placed” to recover, areas such as Stoke-on-Trent are suffering because people are less qualified and there are fewer start-up businesses. The maze of HTML January 17, 2010 1 Comment

Picture the scene: first day back in the redsauce office and James calls a meeting. “That’s nice,” I thought. Just a nice welcome back meeting; how was your Christmas Amy? – That sort of thing! But oh no, that was not to be the case.

Within a few minutes James had shattered my post-christmas positivity by breaking the news that we were starting a new project which meant I’d have to get to grips with the basics of HTML.

I was hoping to ease myself back into work gently by writing a few blogs or doing a bit of client content. But those ideas soon turned out to be just distant pipe dreams….

Rather kindly Tim sorted me out with a few “simple” templates. I picked a template, took a deep breath, opened the HTML…..and instantly wished I hadn’t! Read the rest of this entry »

Starting a New Job January 16, 2010 No Comments

Whenever you start a new job you’re excited, you’re optimistic, you have great hopes about the days ahead and the opportunities in front of you.  Inevitably, all these feeling are crushed in a fireball of mundanity.

Unfortunately, by the time you realise that by expressing these sentiments in comic form you are contradicting the very point you are trying to make, it is too late.  Here is what I hope will be the first of what will become a weekly cartoon entry on the Red Sauce blog.  Don’t worry; they won’t all be as self-referential as this:
