Can you remember a time without YouTube? No, neither can I!
The online video monster site is celebrating its fifth birthday this week! Those five years have flown by quickly haven’t they? The site which was created to allow “anyone with a video camera and an internet connection…to share a story with the world” has gone from strength to strength since its launch in February 2005. YouTube consider subscription fees December 20, 2009 No Comments
YouTube have become the latest company to jump onto the paid for online content bandwagon.
A senior Google executive has said YouTube is considering offering subscription fees which would allow users to watch major TV shows and films online. A number of broadcasters, such as Channel 4 and Channel Five, have already agreed a deal with the Californian website to show content for free but now its considering paid options too. Google Executive David Eun – who is in charge of partnerships with media companies – confirmed that paid subscription was an option as it tries to convince more TV channels and Hollywood studios to sign up. “We’re making some interesting bets on long-form content; not all content is accessible to us with the advertising model,” he said.
